PEQUOT RUNNERS GET READY FOR 31st ANNUAL THANKSGIVING DAY 5-MILE RACE AND 2.7 MILE WALK

The 31st annual Pequot Runners Thanksgiving Day Five-Mile Race is scheduled for November 27 at 8:15 AM at the Wakeman Boys/Girls Club, 385 Center Street, Southport, CT.  In addition to the 5 mile race there will also be a 2.7 mile walk through Southport Harbor for those who prefer the ease of a scenic Thanksgiving Day stroll.

Presented by the Westport office of Smith Barney and co-sponsored by The Athletic Shoe Factory of Westport, The Southport Racquet Club, BMW of Bridgeport, Cheswick Wright Wealth Management, Dworkin, Hillman, LaMorte & Sterczala, The Health and Wellness Center of Norwalk, Fred’s Car Wash and Westport Family Medicine the race is one of the largest in Connecticut and the largest five-mile race in the state.

Club President Jeff Palmer expects to surpass the record 4000 runners registered at last years’ event.  “With the continued support from our presenting sponsor,  Smith Barney, and our co-sponsors we are confident that we will be able provide significant donations to our designated charities”, said Palmer.  The race benefits the Wakeman Boys/Girls Club of Southport, Westport EMS , the Domestic Violence Crisis Center, Fairfield Community Services and the Laddie Lawrence Scholarship Fund (founded by the Pequot Running Club) at Staples High School in Westport.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers...$300.00 for 1st, $150.00 for 2nd and $100.00 for 3rd.  There will also be a post-race raffle with many prizes including a hybrid bike from Cycle Dynamics of Westport.

The first 3400 entrants will receive a long sleeve, 100% cotton T-shirt designed by local award winning graphic designer, Miggs Burroughs.   The easiest way to enter is online at www.pequotrunners.org by clicking on Active.com logo.  Entrants may also sign up in person at the Wakeman Boys/Girls Club in Southport on Monday-Wednesday nights, Nov.24 - Nov. 26, from 7:00PM-9:00PM.  Race day registration for $22 is also available until 7:50AM, but no shirts will be given to race-day registrants.

The 5-mile course through Southport and Westport’s “Gold Coast” has long been a favorite of many runners and the post-race party with refreshments has always been popular.  The Trumbull Bagpipe Band will be back for the 24th consecutive year to lead the runners to the starting line.
