Sheri ValentePresident's Message

Welcome to the Westport Young Woman’s League!

When I joined the League eight years ago, I had left my job at a large chemical company to focus on raising my family.  Like many homemakers, I volunteered in activities that revolved around my children’s lives.  While I felt privileged to be able to spend this time with my family, I yearned to do something that would have a greater impact on the community.  When I heard my neighbors talk about how much they loved the Westport Young Woman’s League, I knew I had to try it out.  Eight years later, I am honored to lead this organization that has been such a satisfying part of my life.

If you are thinking about joining us, here are some benefits of League membership:

Hands-On Community Service:   A variety of projects allow you to connect to communities in need, from serving a meal to clients at the Community Kitchen, an overnight shelter in Westport; to helping children pick out holiday gifts at the McGivney Center in downtown Bridgeport.

Leadership Development:  Serving on our Board of Directors and chairing committees allows you to  develop leadership skills and make an impact in the community.

Pursuit of Interests:   Joining a group that matches your interests such as our “Craft Clutch” for women who like to knit, sew or do hand-held crafts, Daytime Gourmet for women who enjoy great food ;  or the WYWL Book Group for avid readers, allows you to meet women with common interests.

New Friends:   Engaging with like-minded women who are single, married and divorced allows you to find friends among a diverse group of women.  No matter what your marital or professional status, you will fit in.

Fundraising:  Working on CraftWestport and the Minute Man Race, our two major fundraisers, allows you to experience the satisfaction that comes from raising money for worthy causes.

Deciding Where Our Funds Go:  By taking an active role in our Ways and Means process, you help  decide which organizations receive our funds.

If any of the benefits listed above resonate with you, I hope you will look through this website and learn more about our organization.  I also invite you to find out more about the Westport Young Woman’s League by emailing me at info@wywl.com.
