The Westport Young
Woman's League (WYWL) is a dynamic group of 200 women who contribute
their talents in many ways to a variety of community service,
fundraising and social activities. In the midst of it all,
we manage to have a good time and meet many other great women
in our town. Since
its inception, the League has distributed more than three million
dollars to area charities. The League’s primary fundraisers,
the Creative
Arts Festival and the Minute
Man Race generate the major share of the proceeds used for
contributions to needy agencies throughout the region each year. Some of the
many recipients include Mercy Learning Center, Domestic Violence
Crisis Center, Kids in Crisis, Center for Hope, Project Return and
Interfaith Housing. Some of the local community service projects
we have been involved with include the Kids on the Block puppet shows,
Kids in Crisis Food Drive, cooking for the Gillespie Center and Bread & Roses,
Senior Center Bingo and many, many others. The League also
has a variety of social events, including daytime and evening
gourmet groups, seasonal socials and children's events for its members. |
